"Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Colossians 3:23
We may not say it out loud, but how often do we have the "I guess I will" mentality when it comes to things we have to do but may not want to do. "I guess I will go to class today." "I guess I will do that for them." "I guess I will clean that up." "I guess I will be nice." "I guess I will show up". In life, the principle of "Some is better than none" will pay off, but better effort AND attitude is often the best principle to follow. Lord, help me to adjust my attitude and effort and not simply begrudgedly go through life. "For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
In our daily lives, independence and freedom are often used interchangeably. In terms of our faith in Jesus, we have been afforded freedom but that does not mean we are independent from God. In fact, our freedom requires us to be dependent on Him. Lord, help me to avoid being fooled to believe that my freedom that I have through You also means I don't need You. "God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God." Ephesians 2:8
We can thank the giver of a gift with words. A word of thanks or a thank you note is appropriate. However, we can show our thanks even more by our actions by using (and not shoving it in a closet to never be used) the gift and demonstrating that the gift is both valuable and meaningful to us. Lord, help my actions to show thank you for the greatest gift of all. “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” Psalm 37:23-24
We may not recognize it nor think we need it, but God is never far away to lend a strong helping hand. Lord, thank you for always being there to help me, especially when I don't feel or recognize I need it. “May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.” Hebrews 13:21
Some people are more "needy" than others. But the fact is that we all need. However, what we think we need/deserve/desire/want may not be what we actually need ... for doing God's will. Lord, help me to realize that if I ask, You will provide what I need ... as long it is what I need for Your will. "The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences." -- Proverbs 18:21
Most of the problems in the world, and in our individual lives, is brought about by what we say (or type/text/message/post) and not by what we do. We talk more than we act. We can make our own lives and the lives of those around us much better by thinking twice (or at least once) about what we say. Lord, help me to make my words more helpful than hurtful to others and myself. "And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ." -- 1 Corinthians 1:11
I have never once seen anything on Tik Tok but my understanding is that it is a bunch of people copying other people. Sounds like fun if the people you are copying are worth copying. My experience is that most people are trying to be someone else. If that is the case, Jesus is probably the best option. Lord, help me to realize that You should be the one I spend my time trying to imitate. By the way, I am fully aware that I am old and out of touch with today's trends. You can pray for me to be more accepting. While you are at it, get off my lawn. "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus-work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:24
If not with words, with our actions we should at tell others about Jesus today ... and every day. Lord, help me to make my life worth something today by sharing the Gospel with words and/or actions. “For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:17
We tend to either forget or not fully understand the purpose of life and our place in it. Life is about relationships. Our relationship with God and our relationship with others. If these two actions are not important, God wouldn't command us to do them (see Matthew 22:37-39). Life isn't about rules and judging what others are or aren't doing. Life comes down to relationships. And relationships aren't easy. Relationships with both God and others require intentional thoughts and actions. "God isn't trying to make our lives easier; He wants to make them more meaningful." Bob Goff Lord, help me to embrace the challenges of life and of relationships so that I may live a meaningful life. |
