An activity that takes the least amount of physical exertion possible yet is the most difficult to do.
Lord, give me the strength to listen and even more strength to obey.
"Listen, my son, to your father's instruction..." - Proverbs 1:8a

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
Be careful about feeling too good about yourself when others suffer public shame. Often times the only difference between their current situation and ours is not due to our deliberate choices but due to the Grace of God. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you are better than them based on what you have done. Your only saving grace is actually the saving grace provided by God. Lord, thank you for protecting me from myself and help me to acknowledge that fact more often. Help me to show grace as you have shown grace to me. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34
It is easy to get upset with someone, even with God. We are quick to point out what someone hasn't done for us and we find it difficult to remember all of the good things they have done for us. God loves us. God has done nothing to prove that He doesn't love us and has done everything to prove that He does, except do everything that we want. Before getting upset for our inaccurate perceptions, we need to remember that God always loves us. Lord, thank you for always loving me and forgive me for not showing that same consistent love to You and others. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4
"The most difficult step in running is the first step out the door". Making a decision and taking the first intentional action is often what separates those who succeed and those who don't succeed (notice I didn't say fail because to those who don't even try, they justify not trying by saying "at least I didn't fail"). Lord, help me to not be a person that fears failure and help me to be a person that will take the first step toward You. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. 1 Timothy 4:4-5
Lack of self-worth. False Humility. Low self-esteem. Thanklessness. All are in opposition of God's preferred reaction to who we are and what we have been given. We are a creation of God. He doesn't create bad things. We may choose to do bad things but that is on us and not on Him. We should always be thankful for being created to be who we are. Lord, thank you for not only creating me but providing me with so much. Help me to show my thanks with how I live my life. The LORD is slow to anger but great in power; the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished. Nahum 1:3
The cries for justice in society are loud but I don't know how motivated we are for God's justice. God does not "leave the guilty unpunished". This is encouraging until we realize that we are as guilty as anyone. Our sin put Jesus on the cross. Our failures to be obedient to God are what anger Him. It is always easy to point to others and their failings and their need for punishment and at the same time, we find it equally easy to ask for grace for ourselves. Lord, thank you that your anger is slow and you give me the chance for reconciliation. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1:15-16
We should never stop being thankful for others and we should never stop praying for them. Lord, thank you for all the people you have blessed me with. give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Not a job. Not a school. Not a person. Not a place. Not a lifestyle. Not a thing. It really isn't about you at all. God's will for your life is about God and all that He has done for you. Lord, Thank YOU! A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel. Proverbs 15:18
Why do we tell someone to "Count to 10" when we want them to slow down or calm down? Because we realize that the speed at which they are functioning at the moment is out of control or not efficient. Why does God tell us to count to 10" (be patient), because He knows that what are often out of control and not being efficient, effective or accurate. Lord, give me the wisdom to "count to 10" (be patient) throughout the day in order to keep me from letting my emotions make poor choices for me. "My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:2-4
God has a "house". That house has many rooms. It has enough rooms for you and for me and for everyone we know. God wants us to come live in His house. He has given us directions to get there. He already has a room picked out for us and it is furnished and the thermostat is even set to the right temperature. All we need to do is accept the invitation and follow the directions. Lord, thank you for always providing me a place to belong. |
