I used to work at a summer camp and my buddy Clutch (yes, his name) referred to this other staff member as "Check Me Out".  The guy was all about him and all the time.  Everything he did was as if he was yelling "Check Me Out".  I wish I could remember the guy's name.  If I did, I would find him on Social Media and then immediately unfollow him.

Lord, help me to be about You and not be about me and what others think of me.

Lord, help me to be patient and know that when things don't go my way, it may be a "No" but that is because You know better, but also it could be a "Not Yet" and Your timing is perfect.

God created us.  God doesn't make useless and ugly things.  God created us, He created us good, and He created us for good things.  We need to spend less time questioning ourselves and our existence and spend more time doing things and living into the purpose of our existence.

Lord, help me to trust that You made me and made me for a reason, instead of questioning if and why I should have been made at all.

We often spend too much time thinking about how to "change the world" and much less time than we should thinking about how to change ourselves for the better.  We don't need to make drastic changes. We simply must make the small changes in and around us.

If we place a completely full glass of water on a table and then bump the table, water spills out all over the table.  If we hit the table even harder, water spills out on the table AND the floor.  We are filled with all kinds of things.  Love but also hate.  Joy but also sadness.  Peace but also anxiety.  Patience but also discontent.  Kindness but also selfishness.  Goodness but also badness.  Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control but also distrust, forcefulness and anger.  Whatever we are full of, that is what spills out when we are either bumped or knocked over.  Hopefully we are not full of ...

Lord, help me to be filled with what I want spilling out when life bumps me or pushes me over.

Unfortunately, we limit ourselves by assuming that we are born with a specific trait or ability and those things don't change.  "I am ...".  It as if we came out of the womb and there was no opportunity for growth or change.  Love is like most other characteristic or abilities, we can get better at it.  The more we love, the better we get at love.  However, like anything else, the less we do it, the more likely we will lose it.

Lord, help me to love more so I can love better.

Before computers and the "interweb", if you wanted a job, you would go to a Hallmark or Pay n' Save and buy some fancy overpriced "resume paper" and then find a typewriter and create a resume that had your name and address and work experience and then a list of your skills and character traits.  One of the classics was "Self-Starter".  Everyone seemed to list "Self-Starter".  Basically, if you didn't list "Self-Starter", you were admitting that you were a "lazy piece of human existence and need someone to hold your hand so don't hire me or you will regret it."  Employers want someone who is "intentional" and "proactive".  So does God.

Lord, help me to avoid sitting around in my pajamas and hope that the CEO of a Fortune 500 company knocks on my door to offer me a job and also help me to avoid sitting around in my pajamas and hoping You will magically make everything better.
