Every day matters. “Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t.” Jerry Rice

“Do everything without grumbling and arguing.” Philippians 2:14
Nothing shouts selfishness than when we argue with someone or when we complain about someone or something. Whenever we argue or complain, we may as well just yell at the top of our lunges "IT IS ALL ABOUT ME AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS!" Lord, help me to realize that arguing and complaining have no value to me or the world and definitely no value for You. “Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Unfortunately, we often sit around and wait to lead. We think we aren't ready or need more experience or we simply aren't equipped. We will never be "ready" and experience is only gained by experiencing and we don't need to be equipped if we allow God to work through us. Lord, in a world where people make wrong choices and lead poorly, help me to step up and lead more often. “Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me.” John 15:4
The very first trouble shooting suggestion on any electronic device is something like, "Locate the power cord and confirm that it is plugged firmly in to a power outlet". Sounds pretty obvious. Ya, God is laughing at us too. Lord, sorry for failing to insure that I am plugged in to You, first. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.” -- Proverbs 3:5-6
We all get confused sometimes. We all have those things that we "just don't get". We are human. We won't always understand and we aren't expected to. But God gets it. He understands. We need to rely on Him more. Lord, when I get frustrated, help me to turn to You because although I may not know, You do. "Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.” Ephesians 6:10
Lord, help me to pray for strength more and worry or complain less. “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace...” Ephesians 1:7
There are a lot of good deals out there. BOGO is always a nice deal (assuming you need a second of something). Companion fair, Cash Back rewards, Hotel points, COSTCO (assuming you need 35 of something ... and can consume before the something spoils). There is no better deal than the forgiveness that God provides through the grace provided by Jesus. Lord, thank You for providing me with a clean slate for my actions and the only cost to me is my humility to accept Your grace. Perceptions are perceptions because they are not reality. Perception is how we see something while reality refers to how it actually is. We tend to see things unclearly and obscured by our insecurities and bias. If we are going to be wrong about what is before us, we should err on what we CAN do and not what we don't thing we can do. "Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven't half the strength you think they have." Norman Vincent Peale
“No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. ” Matthew 5:15-16
It is interesting how much "light" we are throwing out into the world these days. Selfies, Snapchats, YouTubes, Instagrams. Lots of "light". Unfortunately, I don't know how much of it is actually giving God the glory and how much is simply shining light on our insecure and self-absorbed selves in attempts to boost our own self-worth. Lord, help me to do good works so that I actually have something worth lighting up and help me to give You the glory and not steal it for myself. “Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.” Romans 12:12
Finding yourself in a tough spot in your life? God has a 3 Step Program that is much more simple than any 10 Step Program that may exist. Lord, help me to find hope in You, patience that is found in trust in You and strength enough to stop worrying and start praying to You. |
