Pick Me!  Pick Me!

"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last."  John 15:16

We would much rather be picked than to not be picked.  It started out on the playground.  We all preferred being picked than to be the last one and ending up on a team by default or left watching if there were odd numbers.  However, in this case, we are not only picked but we are picked by God.  We should have a lot more confidence and joy in our life with this awareness.

Lord, thank you for picking me and help me to respond accordingly.

Making Change!

"My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die."  Galatians 2:20-21

We all need to change.  We all need to be better.

Lord, help me to be free from pride so that I may grow and be better.

Forgiveness and Grace!

“‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:18

Being good is more difficult than behaving bad.  Thankfully, others around us choose the difficult actions.  We should too.

Lord, give me the strength to be more loving, forgiving and demonstrate grace.

I Need A Spotter!

The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.  Psalm 121:7-8

Never bench press without a spotter.  Bench press with heavy weight can be extremely dangerous.  Life itself is much more dangerous than getting stuck under a bar.  Never go through life without a spotter.

Lord, I need a spot!

Wife Comes First!

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,  Ephesians 5:25-26

Can't be a husband without a wife.  Can't be a father without a wife.  Can't be complete without someone to love and to be loved by.

Lord, help me to love my wife as she deserves.

Patience!

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  Ephesians 6:4

We all want to raise our children well.  No one wakes up with the goal to be a bad parent.  Our impatience is what gets in the way.  We don't choose to yell at our kids.  Our failure is that we don't have the self-discipline to practice patience.

Lord, help me to be patient so that I am a good parent.

Can't Out-Give God!

Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops;  Proverbs 3:9

Tithing isn't about money.  Charity isn't about money.  Both are a little about helping others.  Both are a lot about trusting that God will provide for you when you provide for others.  You can't out-give God.

Lord, thank you that I can't out-give you!

Lead At Home First!

The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. Proverbs 23:24

If you are a father or a mother, your greatest responsibility is to raise your kids correctly.  You job matters.  Others around you matter.  Your kids at home matter the most.

Lord, help us to put our kids and their growth a priority when other things tempt to pull us away.

"He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young."  Isaiah 40:11

We all need to be comforted once in a while.

Lord, thank you for comforting me when I truly need it.
