In sports, redemption often comes from a loss of some kind. You lose a game, so you hope to redeem yourself by winning the next time. You make a mistake or make an error and you hope to redeem yourself the next play or opportunity. Redemption requires a loss. Redemption in terms of our Salvation requires not only a loss (sin) but our acknowledgement that we have lost (sin). If we don't think we have done anything wrong or if we explain away our sin or justify it, redemption won't occur.
Lord, I fail and I am thankful for Your redemption.
