As one of my spiritual mentors once said, "You can call yourself a car, but it doesn't make yourself a car. You can even go into your garage and sit there all day saying 'Vroom! Vroom!'. It still doesn't make you a car". We can refer to ourselves with all sorts of labels and we can even mimic those things. However, labels and mimicking are external but do not truly represent our true inner nature. Putting on a uniform on Saturday or Sunday does not make you a player on your favorite college or NFL football team. Labeling yourself as a Christian and carrying around a bible doesn't automatically make you a member of God's team.
Lord, help me to behave properly and let my actions demonstrate who you want me to be.
