I often ask a group of people "if you could only take one person to a deserted island and you would spend the remainder of your life with them, who would it be?". Responses range from spouses to parents to siblings to best friends to celebrities and professional athletes. I then follow up with this questions, "Why did you choose that person?" The responses vary but generally all come back to the fact that the person chooses someone that they have a strong relationship with and enjoy being around and won't be annoyed by. I don't see heaven consisting of clouds with an endless supply of ice cream. I see heaven as spending eternity with God. If I don't enjoy spending time with God now, why do I think I would enjoy spending time with God for eternity? And if I can't make time for God now, what makes me think that God would want to make time for me later?
Lord, help me to invest in my relationship with You as it will benefit me now, as well as for eternity.
