In sports, there may be no more overly used and less understood term than "focus". Coaches, parents and even teammates admonish us to focus. Focus. Focus. We have heard this word constantly throughout our athletic lives. But what is it? Focus is "the point of concentration" or "directed attention". In sports, it refers to taking care of the task at hand while also not being distracted by things that don't help you to achieve that task. Peter walking on water is a great example of when focus works and when being distracted fails. When we take our eyes off the goal (Jesus), we become focused on the wrong things (the waves).
Lord, help me to trust You enough to look only at You and not be distracted by the waves.
