Nothing exemplifies our sinful and selfish nature than the idea that we are irreplaceable. We seem to think that we are the only one who can do this job and "when I am gone, no one will be able to do what I do and at the level that I do it." People may argue "I don't think that I am irreplaceable", yet our actions tend to speak the truth. We walk around as if we own "the place". What "place" am I referring to? Here. Life. This world. We act as if the world owes us props for not being a murderer or for being a "good" person. Our standards are pretty low. The truth is that we are not as cool or as important or as valued by others as we think we are. The only one who is not replaceable is Jesus. The only one who sees us as truly valuable is God.
Lord, I won't pray for humility because that is too scary to pray for as you will give it to me. I merely ask that you help me to realize my place in this world and that You matter much more than my insecurities or over-exaggerated sense of purpose tell me that I am.
