Being independent is a badge of honor. Feeling as if we do not need anyone's help is a sign of maturity and responsibility. We spend most of our life attempting to prove our independence from our parents or anyone else, for that matter. God did not intend us to be independent of Him. We are dependent as a branch is to the vine.
Lord, as I seek independence in this world, help me to seek more dependence on You.
