Commands are given when appropriate behavior is unlikely to occur voluntarily. Parents rarely suggest to their kids to not touch the hot stove or to look both ways before crossing the street. Good parents look their kid in the eye and scare the crap out of them so they don't inadvertently hurt or kill themselves. God commands us when we are too stubborn, prideful, selfish, ignorant or stupid to behave the way we should on our own.
Lord, help me to hear Your commands and then obey Your commands.
