I have a strong opinion on a few things. One is that "completing a marathon" is not easy but is drastically more doable by the majority of the population than "training for a marathon". Most humans can find the 3-10 hours to complete nearly 27 miles. However, there are very few who are strong enough mentally to put in the 12 weeks or more that is actually required to train to run a marathon. Most people start training but quit. Some due to injury. Most due to the inability to persevere and finish what they started, regardless of the obstacles. Our faith is revealed in times of long, drawn out suffering and pain ... like training for a marathon.
Lord, help me to remember that life is not a sprint and it isn't a marathon either, as both are too short and have a specified length and a finish line. Life is more similar to training for a marathon, requiring deep commitment and a faith that does not perish.
