Our memories are interesting. We tend to forget things that we want to remember and we often hold on to the things that we want to forget. I have a hard time coming up with the name of the person I am talking with (and I should know their name), yet I can't forget about the time I embarrassed myself by trying to sing karaoke in a pubic place. It seems that we don't have a lot of control over what we remember and what we don't. However, the truth is that we do have the choice to not allow those memories to negatively impact our lives but only use them to help us to grow and change. God doesn't desire for us to be imprisoned by our past and He is present to help us forgive ourselves and move on toward Him.
Lord, help me to forget and forgive others and myself so that I may move closer to You.
