Counterintuitive!

“If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35

One of my Top 5 favorite words in the world is the word "Counterintuitive".  Counterintuitive is defined as anything that is "contrary to intuition or to common-sense expectation (but often nevertheless true)".  The Bible is full of counterintuitive statements.  In life we tend to live by intuition and "common sense" but the reality is that the opposite of what our mind tells us is probably better.  For example, we intuitively feel that "more is better" but more is not always better.  More often leads to injury or obsession or addiction/abuse.  Similarly, focusing on ourselves seems responsible but too much self-focus becomes detrimental and causes us to obsess and be too consumed with ourselves and not concerned enough about others.  More often than not, when we invest in others, we end up be better ourselves.

Lord, help me to realize that when You give instructions in the Bible, that they often make no sense and seem wrong but I must trust that they are right, because they are.
