Sports is fundamentally an exercise in comparison. We compare scores and those scores are typically based on comparative talent and ability and skill and mental toughness and various other attributes. Sports teach us a lot but when sports teach us to compare ourselves with others in ALL aspects of our life, then we are missing the point. Comparison should help motivate us to improve ourselves and to help us to reach our full potential. Comparison should not be a breeding ground for envy or jealousy or boasting.
Lord, help me to realize that I am never as great as I think I am and I am never a bad as I think I am. I am merely a "work in progress" and should only use comparison to help me see where I need to improve and how I need to grow.
