Stress is defined as a "demand on something" such as our body, mind or soul. The term is actually neutral, yet it has become a term referring to something negative. Stress can be beneficial (lifting weights stresses our muscles to make us stronger) and it can be harmful (pressure or the feeling of being overwhelmed by the weight of the world which may lead to depression). Harmful stress is actually properly referred to as "Distress". It is important to be able to categorize stress in our lives as either stress (simply a demand on us that can actually benefit us) or distress (a demand on us that causes harm). When we discover distress in our lives, God can help us to handle that distress and eventually make it beneficial.
Lord, help me to avoid assuming that all stress is bad and when I do undergo distress, help me to seek You.
