My dad used to say, "Toby, you are a good kid. Unfortunately, there isn't a market out there for good kids". His point, there is no tangible value for being a good person. If you want to be seen as worthy by the world (coaches, bosses, teachers, etc), you have to go earn it. Just being a nice person doesn't have value. Now our world today frowns on this kind of "old school" mentality. I argue, our world today suffers from a belief that "being a nice person" will get you what you want and when people get into their 20-30's and realize that although your parents and God may have unconditional love, the world has conditions and your inability to meet those leave you depressed and the feeling of worthlessness. Yes, believe that God and your parents find you worthy but if you expect others to see worth in you, you better actually show them worth. “Whatever you are, be a good one.” ―Abraham Lincoln
