"Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken." Warren Buffet
We love to observe others and wonder "What are they doing?" or even "What are they thinking?". However, we must routinely ask ourselves "What am I doing?" or "What am I thinking?". If we take the time to ask ourselves this simple question, we will often discover that we have habits or routines that are not helpful and have become automatic and don't help us to reach our goals. We have control of our lives and our habits shouldn't.

Do your homework. Be on time. Eat your vegetables. Wear your seatbelt. Say Thank You. Be kind. It seems as if most of life consists of someone telling someone else what to do. Why? Is it because we can't remember or is it because we don't know. Or, is it that we can remember and we do know but we don't value it enough to do it on our own. "If a coach has to beg a player into wanting to improve and get better, they are wasting two people's time." Gary Curneen
"Working Hard" does not always mean "doing more". It often means, "doing different", "doing better", "doing longer", "doing selflesslessly", "being uncomfortable", "being coachable", "being less stubborn", "being humble", "being responsible", "sacrificing", "risking" and/or "being resilient". “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Tim Notke
As much as we may look differently, act differently, and think differently, we all have much more in common than we may think. EVERYONE ON THE PLANET ... worries, doubts, fears, and is anxious, nervous, scared, and lacks self-confidence. Some people demonstrate these feelings/emotions more than other people do but that isn't because certain people don't experience them. It simply means that certain people manage those worries doubts, fears, anxieties, and nerves better. Coping is a skill. Just as reading is a skill we must learn so we can function in this world, we all must learn to cope effectively with the emotions we experience so that we may function effectively in this world.
"A true champion knows how to overcome doubts and manage those doubts and turn them into motivation." Misty Hyman There is a difference between being "responsible" and being "self-absorbed". There are things in life that we must own and be responsible for. Tasks, actions, behaviors. Clean up after yourself and do your homework. We can't rely on others to take care of our "stuff". However, ONLY focusing on ourselves and what we are doing and what we are thinking and what issues we have or are dealing with is a dangerous cycle that leads to frustration, negativity, self-loathing and depression. Helping others. Serving others. Putting others first should also be one of our top responsibilities that will help us to be more balanced and keep us from being too absorbed in our own thoughts and issues. When you find yourself in a place where "life isn't going well", make the choice to make someone else's life better and the payoff will be that two people benefit from your actions.
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?" Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Failure is not a destination. Failure is simply a point along the path to success. When we fail, we can choose to let that failure define us and be our destination/end point. Or when we fail, we can choose to see it as a place to pause and collect ourselves and make a plan to continue to move forward toward our goals. Failure is like a rest area or gas station on the way to our final destination. They are both necessary. However, we would never end our trip there or see the need to stop for gas or to "rest" as a reason to not continue forward toward our final destination/goal.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Winston S. Churchill |
