Happy Circumstances!

“Happy are those who keep his decrees and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways.” Psalm 119:2-3

Everyone wants to be happy! We spend our waking hours seeking happiness. Happiness is a result of our current circumstances. When things are going well, we are happy. Therefore, we are idiots when we seek circumstances that don't bring happiness. We should devote our time to circumstances that we know will bring about the desired happiness. God has proven that His circumstances far exceed ours in bringing those results.

Lord, help me to avoid seeking selfish things that I THINK bring about happiness and instead devote my time to seek the circumstances You want for me.

Worthy Of Trust!?

“The decrees you issue are righteous and altogether trustworthy.” Psalm 119:138

Who do I trust? Myself? Others? Or the One who has proven over and over again to be trustworthy?

Lord, help me to trust You more and trust myself less.

“Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; proclaim his deeds among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell about all his wondrous works! Boast in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” Psalm 105:1-3

When is the last time you gave a "like" or a "thumbs up" or retweeted or forwarded a reel? When was the last time you told someone about something cool that God did in your life?

Lord, help me focus on what matters.

First Impressions!

“Come, let’s shout joyfully to the LORD, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation! Let’s enter his presence with thanksgiving; let’s shout triumphantly to him in song.” Psalm 95:1-2

If someone came into the room and began with complaining and asking for stuff, we most likely would make one of those faces (you know the one). However, when someone enters the room with joy and praise and thankfulness, we become very receptive and find them a joy to be with.

Lord, help me to come to You with joy and thanksgiving and not with whining and ungratefulness.

“For the Lord is good, and his faithful love endures forever; his faithfulness, through all generations.” Psalm 100:5

Why is God good? For many reasons but probably the most important and the one that separates us from Him is that God's love is faithful and endures forever. Our love is generally contractional or conditional.

Lord, help me to be better if I can't be good.

First Things First!

“I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help. He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure." Psalm 40:1-2

Before God answers our cries for help, we must wait. We unfortunately look for a binary answer, either "yes" or "no". We must always leave the door open for "not yet".

Lord, help me to ask. Lord, help me to wait. Lord, Thank You for always answering in the way that is best for me.

Clean start!

"God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Never too late to start.

Lord, thank You that I get to start anew whenever I want.

100 and 2 percent!

"Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100:2

"Give 100%"!!! A common exhortation. An even stronger yet impossible encouragement is "Give 110%". However, giving 100% and even 110% may be possible but only with Jesus. For example, being "happy" or "glad" is impossible because those are responses to our situation. When things aren't good, we feel sad and not glad. However, Joy is an attitude. It is a choice. We choose to be joyful. That is seemingly impossible when things suck ... unless we ask God to help us.

Lord, help me to be Joyful despite my situations.

What If!?!

“Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the LORD! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100:1-2

What if the whole world believed and trusted God completely and showed that commitment every day? What if I did?

Lord, it starts with me.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD of Armies. I long and yearn for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh cry out for the living God.” Psalm 84:1-2

If we aren't interested in spending time with God today, then what makes us think we will want to spend time with God for eternity. Or even worse, what makes us think that God wants to spend time with us.

Lord, help me to find or regain or continue to have the longing to spend time with You now and forever.
