Most, if not all, people overreact in the face of challenges. Unfortunately, most of us overreact in an overt and explosive manner that is easily identifiable and often embarrassing. Equally unfortunate is that most people also overreact in a more subtle manner by overreacting emotionally but in a more subdued, covert way. Shutting down IS an overreaction to a situation as much as exploding is. Being "silent" is not being patient. Being silent can often be more harmful because the emotion festers and boils inside. UNDERREACTING involves reacting but in a patient manner. Take a deep breath. Ask God for the proper response. Then execute in a loving manner towards others and yourself.
Lord, give me the patience needed to underreact and to listen to You.
