Hard Lessons!

“The heavens proclaim his righteousness; all the peoples see his glory. All who serve carved images, those who boast in worthless idols, will be put to shame. All the gods must worship him.”  Psalm 97:6-7

At the end of every human's life, we will look back and wish that we took more advice and avoided learning the hard lessons on our own.  One of the most harsh realities we will learn the hard way is that things of this world (material items and wealth, fame, relationships, positions, possessions, power, selfishness, and comfort) will provide short term happiness but nothing will provide eternal joy besides a relationship with Jesus.

Lord, help me to figure it out sooner than later.

Wait Gain!

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord.”  Psalm 27:14

"Wait" and "Trust" are interchangeable in the Bible.  Why?  Because to Wait is to be Patient.  Patience requires us to Trust.  We Wait because we Trust and we Trust so we can Wait.

Lord, help me to take a deep breath and Wait more, be Patient more and Trust You more.

Why Did I Do That?!

“And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  Colossians 3:17

We do a lot of stuff throughout our day.  Not everything is planned out or intentional.  A lot of our life is either responding or reacting to life as it happens.  We can give God the glory and be thankful for those actions, as much as we do for the actions that we plan and intend from the beginning to glorify God.

Lord, help my mind to be set on You so that I can be thankful all day, and not simply in things that I plan.

What Am I Doing?!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know Him, and He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

Whether said as a question or in frustration or in self-reflection, we often have a problem with the decisions we make and the direction of our life.  Fear not. Question no more.  God has the answer.  The actual question that we need to ask is, "am I willing to do what I should be doing".

Lord, thank You for making my path straight and help me to walk that path in faith.

Son Block!

“Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.” – Proverbs 4:23

Sunblock is always a smart decision this time of year in order to guard against a bad burn.  Shin guards and mouth guards are all valuable in certain sports.  Rash guards if you are a surfer.  Right Guard if you sweat a lot.   Heart Guard?  That is what Jesus is for.

Lord, thank You for providing Your Son and help me to "use" Him to be the Son Block I need in a world that wants to hurt my heart.

“... put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, ..."
Colossians 3:12-13

Compassion - sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

Kindness - the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.

Humility - a modest view of one's own importance.

Gentleness - the quality of being kind, tender, or
mild-mannered.

Patience - an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay

Lord, help me to do at least one of these sometime today.

Fatal Mistake!

“His faithful love endures forever.” – Psalm 136:1b

We all make mistakes.  That's what makes us human.  The biggest of all big mistakes that we humans make is to think God is like us and not ... God.  We lack endurance.  We tend to change more than the weather in the spring.  However, God never changes.  He is the same ... always.  We must realize that in a changing world and in people who change constantly, God is the only constant and that gives us hope and something important to place our trust.

Lord, thank You for being a constant and never changing.

iNFLUENCER OR iNFLUENCED!

“‘What you’re doing is not good,’ Moses’s father-in-law said to him.” – Exodus 18:17

We all need to stop and take inventory of our actions and what our goals and priorities may be.  We also must take inventory of who is influencing our actions, goals and priorities and whether those people are helping us or hurting our progress.  Who are we allowing to influence us AND are we making sure that we influence others well?

Lord, help me to surround myself by good influences, most important You and those who represent you.

Under Think!

“And to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”  Ephesians 3:19

Humans tend to fall into two main categories.  Those who unfortunately don't think at all and those who overthink everything.  God gave us a brain to be a tool and not an obstacle.  We can all be better in life in general, and stronger in our faith, when we listen more, watch more, do more and think some but not too much.

Lord, thank You for a brain that works but help me to allow my love for You to be based on faith and trust.
