... because He loves us. Why do we love people we have a hard time loving ... because He loves us when we are hard to love.
Lord, help me to work harder at loving.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8
If "A" = "B" and "B" = "C" then "A" = "C". Lord, help me to love. "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Are we open to God's wisdom or are we looking for confirmation of what we already believe so we can justify our own desires? Lord, help me to seek wisdom. "We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing." 2 Thessalonians
... for you! What if that was our attitude? How different would the world be if we thanked God for others. Even if it is only for those who love Jesus. That would be a huge step itself because we often have issues more with those who believe in the same God as we do. Lord, help me to love others ... all others ... but also be thankful for those who love you like I do, even when I am upset with them. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12
If you don't know, then read! God has provided the answers but we need to be willing to read to find them. Lord, help me to be less lazy and helpless. For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. Psalm 33:4-5
These words are nothing but comforting in a world of wrong and untruths and injustice. Lord, thank You for providing comfort in an uncomfortable world. "Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers, and be compassionate and humble, not paying back evil for evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing." 1 Peter 3:8-9
Life is indeed not fair. If it were, we would be in a much worse position if we actually received equally what we dish out. We tend to focus on our positive actions and words but forget what we say or do (or don't do) that harm others. If life were indeed fair, we would be more aware of the evil and insults we dish out because they would come back at us at an equal rate. Lord, help me to understand that my words and actions have impact. "Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Many people don't pray because they don't think God is listening. The reason why people think that God isn't listening is because they don't see the answer to their prayer. "My prayer wasn't answered so God must not care or He must not be listening". Our prayers are "requests" and not "statements". God answers ALL of our prayers. Sometimes the answer is YES. Sometimes the answer is NO. And often times the answer is NOT YET. Lord, help me to realize that my prayers are requests and You respond to those in the manner that You deem best for me. “…Whoever is greatest among you should become like the youngest and whoever leads, like the one serving. For who is greater, the one at the table or the one serving?” Luke 22:26-27
Sitting at the "Adult Table" is always more satisfying than at the "Kid's Table". However, the "Adult Table" comes with responsibility. You still have to serve the kids. Lord, help me to see my position as a position of servant and not "boss". “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalms 119:105
Foot lamps were actually a think back in the day. An actual lamp attached to the sandal to help light the path that the wearer would walk. A lamp on the foot brought more light to each footstep. The Word of God is like that foot lamp. It is meant to guide every step we take. Lord, help me to realize that every step without Your guidance is a step in the dark. |
