“And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we'll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.” -- Ephesians 6:10-12 (The Message)

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go" – Joshua 1:9
My daughters were too scared to go down to our basement unless I went with them. Then I removed the door that lead to the basement. Now they live down there. I simply had to remove the barrier that they perceived was separating us. Lord, help me to remove the barrier that makes me to believe that You are not with me always. “Be strong and courageous… Be strong and courageous… Be strong and courageous…” – Joshua 1:6-9
I inform my students that if I repeat something three times in class, the information is important and is worth knowing and most likely will be on the exam. Lord, help me to realize that if You say it, it is important, but if you say it more than once, it is crucial. Lord, help me to realize that if You say it, it is important, but if you say it more than once, it is crucial. Lord, help me to realize that if You say it, it is important, but if you say it more than once, it is crucial. “'My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,' says the Lord. 'And my ways are far beyond anything you can imagine.'” Isaiah 55:8
I tried to put a puzzle together with my daughter when she was much too young (and much too impatient) to put together a puzzle. She kept trying to put the wrong pieces together. She continued to jam the pieces together for a few minutes and then erupted in frustration. I quickly realized what God must feel like when I try to live life "my way". I keep trying to jam my "square" life in His "round" world. Lord, help me to realize that the reason my life isn't working out the way I want is because I am trying to play checkers on a Monopoly board. "No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." Philippians 3:13-14
Stuff happens and that stuff makes us who we are but it doesn't make us who we ultimately will become. Our best days are ahead and we have a choice to pursue more and to not be limited by our past. Lord, thank You that today is not the end and I can choose to pursue more and You desire that for me. |
